The Siljan models are made using a high grade Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides that provides a warm round and well balanced tone, will only continue to improve as time passes. Sitka Spruce is considered to be one of the more prestigious spruce origins originating from the Northern West coast in North America. Tonally, it is known for producing a slightly higher output and responds exceptionally well for flat pickers.
Hagstrom Acoustics Dalarna is a historical province located in central Sweden, home to the town of lvdalen where Albin Hagstrm established an accordion factory in 1925, and where Hagstrom guitar production began in the 1950s. A region steeped in folklore and with a rich tradition of art and craftsmanship, it is a source of inspiration for Hagstroms acoustic guitars. In homage to the birthplace of Hagstrom guitars, we have adopted local names from around the region for our acoustic series: Siljan, Mora, Efldalia, and, of course, Dalarna.
Each model has been carefully developed to produce a unique tone with the help of hand-selected and aged timbers, and traditional body designs such as Dreadnought & Grand Auditorium, and Concert. A feature common to all Hagstrom acoustic guitars is the incorporation of our unique Resinator material into both fingerboards and bridges. The consistency, density, and stability of Resinator wood is ideally suited to the acoustic guitar, and contributes to the rich sonic fingerprint of Hagstrom acoustics.
Beautifully designed cosmetic features such as headstocks, rosettes, tuners and other details, together with the finest of materials and Hagstroms design innovation creates a range of acoustic guitars that are a fitting tribute to the legacy started nearly a century ago in Dalarna by Albin Hagstrm.
SILJAN II STANDARD FEATURES: A high grade solid Sitka spruce top and Mahogany back and sides form the tonal heart of Hagstroms Siljan series. This combination, another classic, is very responsive with robust volume output. Guitars made with this quality North American Sitka spruce typically improve their tonal characteristics as they age. The Siljan series is ideally suited to flatpickers looking for fullness and substance to their sound.
Resinator Wood Resinator wood is a wood composite material that is both more uniform in density and more stable than any standard wood product. These characteristics eliminate dead spots or "wolf tones" sometimes associated with conventional wood fingerboards. Resinator wood has an articulate sound similar to high quality ebony, but without any of the problems associated with ebony. It provides a stable and clear tone, and also adds higher overtones and harmonics which uniquely detail each note. Like our H-Expander truss rod, Resinator wood is a major contributor to the distinctive "Hagstrom tone".
Hagstrom Machine Heads Hagstrom models use 18:1 or 15:1 gear ratio machine heads based on our own designs to insure accurate tuning. Viking and HB series basses feature machine heads with a 17:1 gear ratio.
Fishman ISYS+ 301 All Hagstrom acoustic-electric models are equipped with Fishmans professional quality ISYS 301 Plus preamp and Sonicore transducer system. Advanced features such as a built-in autochromatic tuner and Phase adjustment control provide the perfect support for Hagstroms unique acoustic voice.
