To a guitar maker some guitars from some eras stand out as classics and this is certainly true of the Maton CW80 from the mid 70s to the mid 80s.
As time passes guitar player’s requirements change as do the availability of materials and so, like many long running models (the CW80 first appeared in 1967) the CW80 moved away from the 70s design to become the iconic instrument it is today. But there is still something special about those 70s CW80s so the experienced team at Maton decided to revisit the old guitars and see what we could learn from them.
The result is the Maton Heritage ECW80 series which combines the best features of the 70s guitars with our current day skills and technology. The key ingredients are scalloped bracing, mahogany neck (rosewood headstock veneer with no keyhole), sapele back and sides, white binding, original Honey stained satin finish and the Maton heritage logo as well as 7mm mother of pearl fingerboard dots. The guitar looks like it’s right out of the 70s and has the big bass response of the old guitars combined with the brilliant treble response of our more recent designs. It also comes fitted with our new AP5 Pro pickup system which makes it a really serious performing instrument. We are really proud of this guitar and feel sure that it too will become a classic in its own right.
