Introduced in 1966, the rare sonic presence of President Series Phenolic drums returns in a highly limited collector's edition drum set for Pearl's 75th Anniversary celebration.

The Tone and Feel of the Original with a Modern-Classic Retool.

Few "vintage" instruments have the rare presence of Pearl's original professional drum set.

Introduced in 1966, Pearl's President Series was the first drum set to utilize the unique benefits of hermetically pressurized Phenolic shells. The loud, piercing resonance of these thermo-layered, solid shells was renown for their ability to cut through the mix with undeniable clarity. Original President Series kits have since found an avid audience among collectors and players, as their sound is not comparable with the mainstay woods of modern drum making.

In celebration of Pearl's history of quality and craftsmanship, President Series Phenolic shells make a triumphant return in a Limited Edition, 75th Anniversary drum set. Exuding pristine vintage style with focused updated function, the hallmark appointments that made original President Series unique (like our "Battleship" lug, internal tone mufflers, and adjustable "Gullwing" style bass drum spurs,) are present, and visual touches like Pearl's elegant script badge and classic bass drum logo add to its old school swagger.

Each President Series Phenolic drum kit can be optioned with a signed/numbered 75th Anniversary Edition 14"x5.5" snare drum and signed Certificate of Authenticity. (Sold Separately)

AN UNMISTAKABLE SONIC SIGNATURE.

President Series Phenolic drums mark the return of Pearl's original Hermetically Pressurized, thermo-layered solid Phenolic shell. Its unique cutting clarity is ideal for projecting through competing volume levels and frequencies.

Pearl's 1967 Catalog touted the original P-22 (President Outfit) as "...the finest drum outfit your dollar will buy." 

Phenolics already had a place in the tech community for use in circuit boards, and were seen as a viable alternative to the standard plywood shells of the day for their consistent, non-warping properties. A hermetically pressurized process formed each shell under extreme heat from an alternating combination of thin paper and thermoplastic resin layers. Once formed, each thermoset shell acted like a single solid rather than a layered/ply shell. 

Pearl's original synthetic shells were said to require "...approximately 30% less effort" from the player due to their volume at reduced impact. These drums were only in production a short time, and are highly collectible in the Vintage Drum community.

To make President Series Phenolic drums performance ready, each kit features hardware elements selected for their classic visual appeal, as well as tone and setting security. 

These include the ME835LA/RA Gullwing bass drum spur, classic Battleship Lugs, and LB75 Floor Tom Bracket for secure settings around the kit, R40 Air Suspension Floor Tom Feet, hoop saving Drum Claws, and SuperHoop II Triple-Flanged Hoops.

Each of these hardware pieces lends not only to the tuning and function of each drum but also to the overall sound of the total President Series drum kit.

Cast in 1969 as "C043" for Pearl's professional outfits (including President Series,) it has since been dubbed "The Battleship Lug" by collectors for its angular profile. The new BSL100 features the same striking look and self-aligning design, but with a more robust casting for better tuning integrity.
